Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a 2012 movie produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov. This action-suspense flick is an adaptation of the novel written by Seth Grahame-Smith who also co-wrote the screenplay. This movie was released in 3D as well as in 2D in selected theatres.

Benjamin Walker stars as the titular role, Abraham Lincoln. Among the casts were Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Rufus Sewell.

The movie was based on the real events and mostly real people in history except for the part wherein vampires existed and America’s 16th President was once a vampire hunter.

Personally, I was surprised how I ended up liking this film so much from the moment the credits started playing. Before I bought my ticket this afternoon, I was still a little hesitant if I should continue or not because the trailers didn’t impress me at all. Although I must admit that it sparked an interest. I am glad I continued purchasing that movie ticket.

One of the best things about this movie is the story’s take on history. Yes, others will find it ridiculous to connect The Civil War to vampires and man, it was a pleasant combination. Especially if you’ll throw in Timur Bekmambetov in the director’s seat!

To see a revival of a well-loved American president on the big screen is fun. What made it more fun is to see him wielding an axe and slashing it onto his enemies, resulting in a bloody fashion!

One more thing to commend about this movie are the great action sequences. Well, that’s something to be expected from the guy who directed another kick-ass action movie- Wanted. The fight scenes were very well executed that it really got me on the edge of my seat! The best scenes for me are the ones with the running horses and the one that took place in the collapsing railroad.

The trailer bored me but the movie did not. There are several scenes that got my heart pumping so hard! What would you expect, this is a vampire movie anyway! And I am happy because vampires were shown how they are supposed to be shown. Fierce, scary, and bad-ass. I am looking at you, Twilight.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a movie that should be seen if you are looking for some good, fun action-thriller flick. There are vampires, there are bloods, and a shot at American history lesson. This movie is actually a good popcorn flick that’s not to be taken seriously to be enjoyed. I will give it a 3.5 out of 5.

It is Friday (yeah!) and this is one of the days that I’ve been actually waiting for since last year. Yes people, today is the day The Amazing Spiderman is released in the Philippines.

Luckily, I only have one class, a 1 PM to 2:30 PM class. I actually thought of missing that class because of the movie schedule that I reserved. I purchased one ticket (I am such a forever alone guy, I know) for the 4 PM screening of The Amazing Spiderman at IMAX Mall of Asia. I feared that I might not make it in time if I’ll attend my class. Good thing, the traffic was not that bad during that time so I kinda arrived on time for the movie. By the way, if you are wondering why I was so scared of the travelling time, well, that’s because I still come all the way from Laguna.

Oh well. I arrived at the theatre at around 4:05. I expected the movie to have started but hey, I forgot that I am in the Philippines, and as always, there will always be the effect of Filipino Time. I still got the time to buy my favorite milk tea from Gong Cha. So to say, the movie that was supposed to start at 4 PM started at around 4:20 PM.

The cinema is full! What would you expect? It is the first day of the one of the most anticipated movies of the year. I liked the vibe of this audience that I am with. So, the lights started to dim and man, The Dark Knight Rises trailer was freaking amazing in IMAX! I literally felt shivers down my spine! That just totally multiplied my excitement for that movie by epic proportions.

(Movie review is after the jump…)

I love the 80’s music. I love the 80’s look. I love the 80’s. I love the cheesiness. I love the movie. I love the soundtrack. I love this song!

I want to have a second viewing of Prometheus and if possible, in 3D but most of the cinemas in our place will either play Madagascar 3 in 3D or, worse,  remove Prometheus from their line-up for this week. I mean, why? The nearest theatre where it would be available in 3D is in Southmall and it’ll only be in IMAX and I’ve already seen Prometheus in IMAX 3D. Seeing it again in that format is not an option because it’s costly and The Amazing Spiderman will be released 2 weeks from now so yea. Guess I’d just have to settle for 2D then…
